Handcrafted by the Zanrinbo studio in Shizuoka, this sepia-toned Suruga bamboo single-flower vase features a whimsical curved silhouette and intricate traditional weaving.

Description

Traditional Suruga Bamboo Artistry

Experience the delicate beauty of Suruga Take Sensaku (Suruga Bamboo Crafts), a traditional Japanese handicraft from Shizuoka renowned for its use of slender, rounded bamboo strips and refined bending techniques. Created by the artisan studio Zanrinbo, this single-flower vase is named Ukigumo, which translates to “Floating Cloud.”

Whimsical Curved Design and Exquisite Weaving

While bamboo is often associated with straight, rigid forms, this piece showcases the artisan’s exceptional skill in coaxing the material into a playful, undulating shape. The bottom of the vase features a beautiful layered combination of two traditional weaving techniques: Nankin-ami (an intricate, fine weaving style) and Ajiro-ami (a diagonal twill weaving pattern). Even when left empty, its unique sculptural presence serves as a captivating interior ornament.
