Description

Traditional Shizuoka Craftsmanship

Handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Ranrinbo, this elegant oval serving tray showcases the beauty of Suruga Sensuji Takezaiku (Suruga bamboo crafts). A traditional craft originating from Shizuoka, it is characterized by using smooth, rounded bamboo splints (maru-takehigo) to create delicate and sophisticated structures.

Materials and Craftsmanship

This tray is meticulously constructed using local Japanese Madake (giant timber bamboo) and Mosochiku (tortoise-shell bamboo) from Shizuoka. To form the outer oval rim, the bamboo is heated and shaped over an oval iron mold, leaving slight, natural heat marks that demonstrate its authentic hand-made quality. The base of the tray features a wooden board covered with a beautiful Ajiro-ami (diagonal wickerwork weave) using 8mm wide bamboo strips.

Finished with a clear urethane coating, the tray displays a light, natural beige tone that will gradually deepen and develop a rich warmth over time as the bamboo ages.
